Someone who is described as generous is almost always being complimented. But receiving rarely gets the same attention. For this reason, allowing ourselves to feel nurtured and cared for can feel like an unfamiliar or awkward capacity.
There’s a question I occasionally ask clients that tends to stop people for a moment:
What if you’re only experiencing a small fraction of the pleasure available to you?
Or in other words:
How much pleasure can you stand?!
When people talk about intimacy, they often focus on communication, compatibility, and sexual skill. Those things matter, but I think another part of intimacy often gets overlooked: play.
There’s a glossy, magazine-cover version of male sexuality that most people have absorbed without ever really questioning it. It’s the idea that a man’s desire should be constant, his arousal immediate, and his body responsive the same way it was at 25, 35, 55, and beyond.
Most men approach intimacy like they do everything else: efficiently.
They move toward the goal. They escalate. They perform. They finish. This method works until it doesn’t. The body doesn’t thrive on efficiency; it thrives on attention. And attention needs curiosity.
Most men I work with have mastered movement. You know how to go, how to act, how to perform. But ask your body to be still — and that’s often where the real challenge begins.
Stillness isn’t the absence of power. It’s what refines it.
It’s the pause that lets the next move land.
And in the erotic realm, stillness can be the most potent sensation of all.
